Non-medical devices.
Complies with standard EN 14683

The wearing of a mask is recommended for the French population to protect themselves from the transmission of the coronavirus, even if it does not exempt the wearer from observing barrier gestures and social distancing measures.

How to use

Do you have your mask in hand? Perfect. Here's how to put it the right way, on the right side and also remove it without being contaminated.

How to put a protective mask against the coronavirus?

Whether you have a disposable surgical mask or a washable cloth mask, be aware that both should be worn on bare skin. To put it, you must in order:

  • Wash hands with soap and water or use a hydroalcoholic solution before touching the mask.
  • Take the mask by the elastic straps and place it on the face. To fix it: put the elastic behind the ears or the upper lace knotted behind the upper part of the head and the lower lace under the ears, knotted in the neck.
  • Unfold it to cover the nose, mouth, and chin.
  • Adjust the mask by pinching in particular the bar on the nose with the index fingers on the edges of the nose, so that the upper part of the mask is well positioned on the bridge of the nose
  • Once positioned, do not touch the mask with your hands anymore or not before washing your hands again with soap and water or an alcoholic solution.

What not to do when wearing a mask

The mask is a barrier to the virus provided that certain mistakes are not made. For example :

  • Do not push your mask on your forehead or under your chin during and after use.
  • Do not touch the mask once it has been properly positioned on the face.
  • Do not put it in the pocket or purse after being worn. Always in an insulated bag (a freezer bag for example) and a clean bag for washable masks.
  • Single-use masks should not be reused, since they are disposable.

The mask should be worn 4 hours maximum. During this period, it can only be used several times if it is removed according to the instructions, temporarily stored or hung to have the least possible contact, and put back on according to the instructions. The mask should be washed whenever it is soiled, wet or improperly positioned on the face.

Disposable mask: blue side or white side?

Disposable surgical masks have a blue (or colored) side and a white side. To properly put on this mask, the blue (or colored) side must be on the outside and the white against the mouth, the white side being the absorbent face.

Why colors on a surgical mask? "Because it is composed of 2 or 3 layers, some of which have an anti-humidity capacity and the others are filters. The goal is to drastically reduce particles reaching the mouth. These filters are like barriers which will fail one after the other due to humidity. After 4 hours, the mask is completely permeable so remove and dispose of it carefully and then disinfect well" answer Dr Sebastian Marciano, doctor at the medical emergencies of Paris (UMP).
